The current request is to build 144 single-family lots and 88 townhouse lots on 68 acres.
My opinion.
Things that aren’t right with this subdivision plan:
- Harris Rd traffic will increase by 3,300 trips per day which will mean congestion and long wait times.
- Harris Rd will be widened at the expense of current greenspace.
- The view of 3 story apartments along Harris Rd will dominate any trees that remain after deforestation.
Things that are right with this plan:
- Housing for people who can afford $2000+/month rent or mortgage.
- Some of the natural creek and forested areas will be spared.
Priest, Craven & Associates is the developer. Beware: Their website sucks.
- PCA’s client is real estate developer Church Street Company. Church would like to rezone the 68 acres for General Residential use and Highway Business use.
- The land owner is Jane Harris Pate of Durham.
Joyner-Harris Forest Conservation is the leading development opposition group.
